Situated in the lower part of the area, Gatina is a Kikuyu word meaning “bottom”. The location is popular for growing bananas because of the high fertility of the soil and high amount of water. The high supply of water comes from the Iruiimi springs, which is located near the factory.
The cherries are sorted before being pulped. The parchment is then fermented overnight, before being washed and graded into P1, P2, P3, P lights and pods. After that, it is dried on the drying tables for 8-14 days.
